Hi Everyone
I am in the middle of wiring my F1 and installing antennas for my
radios/GPS.
I am considering putting the VOR/ILS antenna on the belly of my ship, right
in between the wing
Roots. My Comms antennas will be right in front of it.
Since I am using the cat whiskers setup which won't fit anywhere on the tail
(without major alterations) this seems to be
the only location. I probably cannot use the Archer antenna because the tips
of the new F1 wings are too narrow (right Mark?)
Does anybody have any kind of experience with this setup?
Will there be interference with the other antennas?
I am planning to put my GPS antenna right behind the canopy track on the
spine.
Any suggestions/comments?
Thanks guys!!
Wolfgang (F1 #77)

My photo site at www.wernerworld.com/rocket was updated today. Nearing the
end, I just work on whatever strikes my fancy on the given day! This is the
fun part.
I know, some have complained that they can't make the page load. I don't
know why. Probably stray electrons in your system!

Hi Wolfgang, I installed Bob Archer VOR antenna's in the wingtips of my
Rocket (F-1 wingtips) with very good success. I also tried a tape-on comm
antenna in the gear leg fairing without success. I love my GPS antenna location
the very best. I put a "right angle" of about 2" aluminum mounted to the
firewall and mounted the GPS antenna horizontally just ahead of the firewall and
UNDER the cowling. Seems to work perfectly. Not if you have carbon fiber
cowling though. There are strick rules (which I do not know) regarding how close
together the comm antenna's can be to the transponder, and nav antennae.
Good luck, Les Featherston

Hi Wolfing,
You'll need to mount the NAV antenna two feet away from the bottom of the
fuselage to get it to work very well. Even a NAV antenna mounted on top of the
vertical stabilizer is still adversely affected by the horizontal stabilizer.
Put a Sportcraft NAV antenna in the wingtip. There is not a better NAV
antenna installation in existence. No compromise in antenna reception. (And no
drag.)
Contact Bob Acher direct at 310-316-8796 to order. Bob will be able to
answer any questions you might have on antenna installations. He spent his career
designing them for TRW.

Hi Wolfgang,
I should have mentioned that the Sportcraft (Bob Archer) NAV antenna needs
11" from the attachment to the end of the tip.
BTW, Bob Archer has a COM switch that allows you to use one antenna for two
COM radios.

Wolfgang:
I set up Archers's antenna in my F1 wingtip. There is enough room for
the
antenna, but also I bent it up (more vertically) to get an optimum radiation
pattern. I also ended up making a cut-out for the antenna through the
builder installed rib.

Wolfgang is referring to the new taper wing for the F1, not the straight wing.
The new wingtip has an aluminum cap as the wingtip that fits tightly against
the end rib; I don't think its possible to get any sort of grounded/capacitive
antenna in the wingtip. A cat-whisker vor antenna works fine bolted up to the
bottom of the fuselage in the tailcone on my hangar-mate's RV-6A, no problem
with reception.

I believe Stu is addressing his installation of his Sportcraft COM antenna.
The NAV antenna is mounted horizontally.

Hello!
I'm writing an article for Kitplanes magazine about financing for
homebuilts. Has anyone had any experience in financing your Rocket (or other plane
that you've built), and would you care to share that experience? Also, if
you've had the experience of financing an already-completed homebuilt, I would
love to hear from you as well.
Thanks so much! If you care to contact me off-list, my email address is
cory@lightspeededit.com. My "list" email address is bootless@earthlink.net.
By the way, I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Gross at Sun 'n Fun, and you can
see his F-1 Rocket's paint job in the July issue of Kitplanes (Aircraft Exteriors
and Interiors - page 40).
Best,
Cory Emberson
