Okay you guys, all I hear is the need for speed and Smooooth! I understand
that, as I too have a rocket, and I have the J blade Hartzell and no parts
are falling off. I sure wish you all would qualify your SPEEDS, are you
all at sea level and 59 degrees, or our you at 10 K and temps way below that
number, or somewhere in between? What are your power settings? which has a
high degree of relevancy! I see very warm temps at 10K up here in the
sierra and its reflected on my Indicated airspeed! I do not care about TAS,
I have GPS! The gps is a marvelous tool to allow one to exaggerate on the
how fast my rocket is statement! My indicated airspeed ON the meter is
180MPH at 9500 ft on average, 18 to 19 inches MP, 2200RPM, OAT ? not using
ram air and burning about 11.8 to 11.9 GPH slightly rich of peak, can I go
faster? yes, do I run the MP at max? no,so if one were to use the standard
day and 2% per thousand from sea level my true A/S would be about 200 mph.
Slow,Fast? who cares Its a ROCKET!! I am going across the street to do a
little acro in the rocket , you all have fun, Bob Marshall,N999RM.

.......
I do not care about TAS

TAS means it is qualified. It's the ONLY number that matters in speed if
you want apples to apples
After reading your post about 5 times I suspect you are being sarcastic
thoughout and actually have no point at all since there are several
contradictory statements in there.
Best,
Mike

Now wait a minute. Why are speed trials measured in ground speed covering an
outbound and an inbound leg to discount wind and other weather factors? It's
because that's the most accurate way of determining a total
pilot+airframe+powerplant's performance.
I agree, TAS is a good measure for what this discussion is about, but when
you want to talk about TAS as a measure of one prop over another and whether
one reaches either 199 kts or 200 kts, every other airspeed indicator will
produce a different (micro) result due to various factors such as static
pressures, instrument variations, and airframe construction. It is not the
only number that matters, in my (not always) humble opinion.
I read the 2-blade and 3-blade prop discussion and would prefer smoothness
over speed, if the sacrifice is 1 or 2 knots. I will try to make that up by
other means, such as optimizing something else in the airflow, or investing
in pulse-tuned induction or exhaust systems. What the hell, just through
another couple of steeds into the nose. With enough of those one would be
able to blast a Tiger Moth through the sound barrier, after all.
Thanks
Nico

Apple Valley Airport (APV) will be holding an Open House on Saturday Oct
29th from 9am-3pm. There will be aircraft & cars on display. Just like last
year there will be a free breakfast for those flying in and/or displaying
and "People Choice" trophies will be awarded. Fly Bys and formation approach
to landing are encouraged but are at pilots discretion. There will NOT be an
AirBoss for flights but where will be ground parking control at the normal
