Subject: | Re: more fuel needed |
Bill,
I bought a flying 97' Rocket this year to fix up alongside my RV4 I built back
in 89'. My Rocket has built-in tip tanks manufactured by the builders (Doug
Shell & Jim Coelho) who built their 2 Rockets side-by-side to share all the
work and knowledge.
I met Jim at OSH this year and he explained to me in detail about how they
did it. They are aluminum tanks that fit into the standard Van's Sheared wingtip
and partly into the wing, similar to the safe-air-one tanks. They don't require
any separate valves, gauges or fittings. You simply select whichever wing
tank and the tips feed into the mains as they feed down utilizing a check valve.
I have run at least 10 full tanks through "Rocky" (54 gallons total) and it's
a great setup. I took off from OSH this year and went non-stop to Montgomery,
AL.
If you have any questions, I'm sure Jim or Doug would love to tell you all about
them. Jim's email is:

Good Luck!

Can any one tell me where I can buy tip tanks for my HR11, I need more fuel.
I know about the safe air people, but I think I would like to have fiberglass
tip tanks and this Jon Johnston is on the other side of the world. Thanks Bill
