Tom, I didn't know you flew Bronco's, I was in the 27 TASS at George 85-88..I like your N Number...good ole 561st. Anyway, an Alaska Backcountry Pilot taught me years ago to never run-up sitting still, always do it on the takeoff roll. You reduce picking up rocks in your prop and the unfortunate event the RV6 guy experienced. If you have Electronic ignition, a static run-up isn't necessary anyway. It either works or it doesn't. With practice you can check both ignition systems and the prop in a few seconds on the roll. A low speed abort is much less expensive than standing your bird on it's nose... We do rolling takeoffs in the F16 where there is a FOD hazard as well as the GE F110 will suck golfball sized rocks off the ground and into the intake at Military (full) Throttle. My Rocket will raise the tail at 1400 rpm without full aft stick. I do a rolling takeoff whenever possible due to my rough home strip conditions anyway. Just a thought... Rob Ray I assume it is the same as for the OV-10. With reversible props, it could back up. However to stop, if you used the brakes, it would tip backwards over onto its tail. Rob, Looks like our ships passed in the night, i.e., I was at George AFB from 1980 to 1984 (563rd TFS) then again from 1989 to 1992 (561st TFS). My OV-10 time (23 TASS) was from 1976 to 1980 at Bergstorm AFB Texas. My call sign was Nail 69. I check my mags at 1600 to 1700 RPM as any higher the tail wants to come up (stick is back) and I check the prop on takeoff roll. Cool Tom, great callsign, I was Five Zero. Flew The Viper in PACAF after George and still flying it in the guard 20 years later somehow, (our unit just got back from Iraq) I am blessed. Flew my Rocket to drill this weekend and our maintenence guys were worried the weather front would blow it around outside so they put it indoors next to an F16. I got a pic... see ya! Hi Mike, Since you've probably tried Spruce, Hartzell and Mark Frederick's sources, did you try the Mooney folks? Also, there is an aircraft salvage yard in Sacramento (Kenny Faith) and one in TX who might have it. Google aircraft salvage and Kenny should pop up. Since the Aztec shares it as well, worst case you can buy it from Piper sources. You might bounce an email off the Harmon Folks as well. Smokey, Ye spoke to Hartzell, Spruce, John Harmon. No joy on them. The rockets use a 15". Way to big for my RV cowl. Best shot right now is a couple prop shops that have lots of spinners on the shelf for me to go take a look at. Ill call Kenny. Thanks for the lead.
