Can someone tell me how much oil an O-540 E4 B5 engine should hold?
My engine will only keep about 8.5 quarts (dipstick reading when cool)
and deposits the rest on the belly and tail.
Mods to the engine are: Fuel Injection, 10:1 pistons, inverted oil
system
Aircraft: Harmon Rocket II
Thanks,
Jim

IO-540 J4A5 - no upgrades
I put in ten quarts during oil changes. After a short engine run to
replace oil in the cooler, etc. I see 9 qts on the dipstick. More and
it goes straight to the belly.

Jim,
Mine is a C4B5. Following a change, it takes 11-12 quarts to get to a
level of 9 on the stick (after running it). If the tail is lifted to
level flight attitude, it indicates 10. The C4B5 is made to sit nearer
level which explains the increase. I also have the inverted system.
