Thanks Ivan - I sure appreciate it. I'll make some calls.... Andrew, You might want to check out Jim Winnings' set-up for rear seat rudder pedals. I hear his are nice but have not seen them yet. His phone # is 317-718-3415. I don't have his e-mail but have called him in the past and found him to be very helpful. I don't know how or when, but I'm going to NZ someday. It's one of those "have to do before I die" kind of things. I'm 56 now and can feel the clock ticking. I hope you still have your rocket when I get there. Ivan Haecker rv-4 1458 hrs. S. Cen. Cool - I like Camarillo, actually. I've now bought three aircraft from there, weirdly enough - a Jungster 1, which scared the crap out of me cos I only had about 7 hours in taildraggers (!!!!) a Smyth Sidewinder project, which I sold for a big loss....and my wonderful Harmon Rocket. So I take it you're based there too, yeah? And you have a Rocket, I take it?? Hi, Andrew. Just wanted to respond to having shipped your machine from Camarillo. It's where I go when I want to kick some tires. Just up the road from us. Enjoy! Nico -----Original Message----- From: owner-rocket-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rocket-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of ACTIVE NZ - Andrew Sent: Tuesday, May 27, 2008 4:35 PM Subject: Rocket-List: Rocket rear rudder pedals//reminder that we're down here in New Zealand! --> <andrew@nzactive.com> Hi guys. As a long list time lurker from New Zealand... I'm really keen on getting some rear rudder pedals in my Rocket, as my main instructor won't fly with me without them. I apologise if this question has been asked before - anyone know the simplest/easiest (but robust) way to retrofit??? I saw a really nice set on a Rocket in a tiny place in the Sierras, just north of Lake Tahoe, and got the gentleman's contact details, but then stupidly mislaid them. I'll drop in next time I'm fling around the US, unless anyone knows the name of the guy who lives with his Rocket and pilot-wife in a tiny town northwest of Reno by, I'm not sure, maybe 100 miles? I seem to recall he's very close to Sierra Springs. He had a VERY elegant set of pedals, and I'd love to copy them - or see if anyone here has any good suggestions/diagrams/photos. Also, Rocketeers, just repeating my invitation, made a couple of years ago, to some of the coolest flying in the world, down here in New Zealand. I live in Queenstown, which is a must-stop on any NZ vacation anyway. I fly my Rocket off a little farm strip, but we are right next to the Southern Alps, which means some stunning scenery. All Rocketeers are welcome, should you ever be on vacation in NZ - we have a spare room, an HRII, and....well what else couldja need? :) I gather New Zealand's second Rocket has just been built. Our first indigenous one, I guess. Mine came from Carl Wright in Camarillo, and is a very well built aircraft. I've put 500 hours on it since then. And we have another Rocket just being started in a small town in Southland, called Gore. I talked to the builder, and it sounds like he may have run into one or two of the people on this list on a recent reserach trip to the US. He's a very nice guy - John Bowles, I think, is his name - and is well worth helping out. He's already built an RV4, so this isn't his first foray into homebuilding. I'm sure he'll build it well... My apologies, everyone - I replied to emails from Nico and Ivan, and thought I was emailing them off-list. Didn't realise it would post list-wide. I'll be more careful in future. & thanks to all those who have emailed me info about rear rudder pedals in Rockets! Andrew ________________________________ From: owner-rocket-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rocket-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Jim Stone Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2008 3:00 PM Subject: Rocket-List: Cockpit cooling Hey Guys, My cockpit air comes from a two inch scat going from a hole in the upper rear baffle on the left/center side, same side as my oil cooler, and then goes to a firewall mixer valve which allows heat muff air to be mixed with it. My complaint is, this air is too warm on a day that is 75 degrees or warmer. I have a Naca vent under the right wing that brings in cool outside air but it goes only to the rear seater. I would like to change the front seat set up and leave the rear seat the way it is. My question is, has anyone put a 2" hole in the forward horizontal baffle, in front of number 2 cyl and pulled the air down and aft to the mixer valve on the firewall? Or, has anyone just tied a scat hose along the top of the engine from the aft baffle to the cowl opening in front of number 2 cyl. in an effort to catch the air before it warms up. My setup is similar to John Harmon's, and he told me years ago that it works fine for him, so I assumed if it works in the Bakersfield desert, it will work in Louisville. Perhaps my setup is not as similar to John's as I think. TIA, Jim Stone

in New Zealand! No Rocket I am sad to say, having never heard of them before joining this list a couple of years ago. Having a rocket (or other high performance plane) will come some day, I know. I am a past Aero Commander/Piper Seneca II/Piper Twin Comanche owner, which explains my mindset: twin engines = more power (and assurance of a second power plant). I saw some videos of folks flying their Rockets and I must say, it looks like quite a blast.
