Dan, --There comes a point when weight vs horsepower becomes an issue. The I O-720 weighs nearly 500 lbs installed. The Comanche 400 (IO-720) is a very cool airplane but burns alot of gas for the weight. Roy Lopresti's Comanche 260 with clean-up mods could go just as fast. ---A P&W PT6-6 turbine weighs just under 300 lbs and puts out over 600HP (not de-rated) The probl em is cost. A good friend of mine actually removed his IO-540 from his F-1 in lieu of a 200HP flowed and balanced IO-360. Why?-Weight and handling. He shaved over 160 lbs off his empty weight and only lost 8 knots at top en d. Not that I'm removing my 540 anytime soon, I get to fly ALOT of RV's and sometimes I too miss the light nose and empty weight of my 150HP wood prop RV4. -The advantage of a turbine for me would be the "less nose heavy ness" an d ability to run diesel or kerosene.- SmokeyHR2 --- On Fri, 12/10/10, Daniel Weseman <danweseman@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Daniel Weseman <danweseman@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: Rocket-List: Re: Turbine =0AWhy not a HRIII with a-IO-720 or a GTISO-520 in it? -Dan Weseman danweseman@yahoo.com www.flycleanex.com www.fly5thbearing.com =0A =0A =0A=0A=0AFrom: "Speedy11@aol.com" <Speedy11@aol.com> Sent: Fri, December 10, 2010 6:16:54 PM Subject: Rocket-List: Re: Turbine =0A=0AEAA Chapter 288 had a nice presentation last month on a turboprop tha t weighs 50# without gearbox and prop and puts out 242HP.-- It is a gre at looking engine.- Cost - $90K with gearbox.=0AStan Sutterfield=0AHas an yone every looked into putting a turboprop on a Rocket.- Seems like a match made in heaven to me.=0A=0A- ====================0A=0A=0A=0A

Not offhand, but I'll get the info for you. The first one is being installed on, I think, a RV-7. Stan Hi Stan, Do you happen to have a name or POC for the turbine presentation at Chapter 288? Although out of my price range right now, I'd like to keep up with what they are doing. Thanks, Mark S.

Mark, Found the info from EAA288.org web site. PBS, Czech Republic built Turbo-Prop, TP-100 and the Turbo-Jet, TJ-100 Turbine Engines. The TJ-100 weighs 48 Lbs and generates 250 Lbs of thrust. If you were at OSH, Air Venture 2010 you saw this engine powering an aerobatic glider. The TP-100 develops 242 HP and is presently being installed in an RV-10 by Diemech Turbines at their facility in Deland. Christian Skoppe is President of Diemech Turbines and will attend the meeting. These Engines have the potential to be a "Game Changer" in the light aircraft world. _http://www.diemechturbines.com/_ (http://www.diemechturbines.com/) Stan Sutterfield Hi Stan, Do you happen to have a name or POC for the turbine presentation at Chapter 288? Although out of my price range right now, I'd like to keep up with what they are doing. Thanks, Mark S.
