Subject: Re: RotaxEngines-List: --> RotaxEngines-List message posted by: "Johann G." Hello Craig. You could be draining the battery if you have the C connection from the regulator grounded through the battery selenoid. When you turn the battery master off, the selenoid is grounded and if the C wire is connected to ground when battery master is off, you will drain the battery slowly. Just make sure that the battery does not get grounded through the battery selenoid or the C wire. Do not ask how I know this. Hope this will help. Johann G. I have been following the Europa list for some time as it seems the most active and has had good information on Rotax engines. I have an Esqual with 180hrs on it. It uses a Rospeller 2 blade electric c/s. The performance is very good especially on initial acceleration and climb out. It appears to be very well made. I have had some problems with the wires breaking inside the insulation at the terminals on the electric motor due I think to excessive vibration. I have recently upgraded the wires from 22g to 18g which I hope will cure this. The prop controller is made by Filser in Germany and a negative is the small display and lack of backlighting. I have heard that it is being upgraded. TBO is 600 hrs on mine. I hope this might be extended if they have a history of satisfactory operation and little wear. Can you give us some performance figures. IAS against RPM and MAP. Thanks, Paul. ----- Original Message ----- From: "M Ferguson" Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2006 9:26 AM Subject: RotaxEngines-List: Constant Speed Propellers for 912S/ULS > --> RotaxEngines-List message posted by: M Ferguson > > > Hi Martin, > Good to see a list established for Rotax engines. We have one on our Europa and it works well. It is recommended by Europa Aircraft. Full feathering. Turned out that I didn't have the engine grounded good enough. Once I added a ground strap from the engine to the airframe it cranked right up. I don't have experience with their constant speed. I also have an in-flight adjustable GSC prop. on my Titan Tornado. It is a great prop. In my opinion, unless you have all the money in the world to spend, an in-flight adjustable prop gives you the performance of a constant speed at a much less expensive price and much less maintenance. It is simple and easy to operate, just not automatic. I have an Arplast PV50 on my 912 powered Europa and I can't fault its performance. Unfortunately, I have a short-term component supply problem so I can't actually ship any CS units at the moment but I expect this to be sorted before too long. The older starter is 600 watts according to the install manual, and Lockwood said that the HD draws less than the old style, but dosen't know how much. I was only able to get "Less thasn 100 amps" Thx. I was crossing numbers on the solenoids and found out that one of them i forgot which was the same used on a mercedes diesel glow plug solenoid and that did not make me feel comfortable. thanks again Craig --- Mike Sinclair wrote: > --> RotaxEngines-List message posted by: Mike > Sinclair > > Craig > > For what it's worth, when I first was attempting to > start my 912 it seemed > that the battery didn't have enough juice to get it > to turn over very well. > Turned out that I didn't have the engine grounded > good enough.
