Wow - Thousand US$ for a cylinder head.....
Given that there are many motorcycle and alloy car heads running around with
inserts, my suggestion would be to take the head to a reputable cylinder
head reconditioner and ask for advice. Do not mention that it is for
aircraft use, but you will get a feel for how reliable it may be from the
experts. Tell them it is for a marine engine that will be operating in the
Arctic, hundreds of miles from anywhere and it has to be VERY reliable !

Has anyone ever had the spark plug hole thread repaired in a 912 or 914
head? What has been your experience? Which is better? Heli-Coil or
Timesert?
I know that Rotax recommends replacing heads with spark plug hole thread
damage but at over 1000 USD a head there has to be another solution.
