Given that there are many motorcycle and alloy car heads running around with inserts, my suggestion would be to take the head to a reputable cylinder head reconditioner and ask for advice. Do not mention that it is for aircraft use, but you will get a feel for how reliable it may be from the experts. Tell them it is for a marine engine that will be operating in the Arctic, hundreds of miles from anywhere and it has to be VERY reliable ! What has been your experience? Which is better? Heli-Coil or Timesert? I know that Rotax recommends replacing heads with spark plug hole thread damage but at over 1000 USD a head there has to be another solution. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 03:26:26 PM PST US From: "Tony & Peggy Pierce" Subject: Re: RotaxEngines-List: RE: RotaxEngines-List Digest: 91X Spark Plug Hole Thread Repair --> RotaxEngines-List message posted by: "Tony & Peggy Pierce" I believe Rotax engines are used in production snowmobiles... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Martin Hone" Sent: Thursday, March 30, 2006 1:55 PM Subject: RotaxEngines-List: RE: RotaxEngines-List Digest: 91X Spark Plug Hole Thread Repair > --> RotaxEngines-List message posted by: "Martin Hone" > > > Wow - Thousand US$ for a cylinder head..... > Given that there are many motorcycle and alloy car heads running around > with > inserts, my suggestion would be to take the head to a reputable cylinder > head reconditioner and ask for advice.
