--> RotaxEngines-List message posted by: "Martin Hone" <mctrader@bigpond.net.au> G'Day Bruce, I flew my Rotax 912-powered ultralight around Australia, and by necessity had to use 100LL and Avgas 100/130, which has much more TEL than the 100LL. The engine didn't seem to suffer any ill effects despite my continued use of full synthetic oil (Amsoil 20w-50). However, I was happy to return to unleaded about 92 flying hours later. And yes, I did change my oil and filter about half way around, and again on my return. We will be doing a long cross country which will require several tanks of 100LL. I've heard of additives to reduce the lead buildup when using 100LL, what have some of you had success with??? No problem. Just make sure you're using the correct oil for the 100 LL, as specified by Rotax, and change oil and plugs more often. If it were my airplane, I'd be wary of any additive not recommended by Rotax. Regards, Gilles Thesee Grenoble, France http://contrails.free.fr

You also need to change the oil more frequently - 25 hrs. Aircraft Spruce sells TCP but it requires a hazardous fee. They also have another product which supposedly works like TCP but isn't hazardous. We haven't used either yet. Would be interested in comments on the "other stuff". Thousands of Rotax are successfully flying in Europe, and 100 LL is the same as in your country. Regards, Gilles Thesee Grenoble, France http://contrails.free.fr

--> RotaxEngines-List message posted by: "B Johnson" <bjohnson@satx.rr.com> Good point, and that is exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for... My concern is the lead fouling the plugs and causing buildup on the inside of the heads/valves, and pistons. I just helped my cfi/AP take her C85 apart for rebuild with 2300hrs smoh, and I've seen what lead buildup can do to an engine that is designed for a lower lead fuel... It seams to me, in the higher compression 912S, these uneven deposits would increase the chance of detonation or pre-ignition???? -Bruce > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-rotaxengines-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner- > rotaxengines-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Gilles Thesee > Sent: Monday, April 24, 2006 11:15 AM > To: rotaxengines-list@matronics.com > Subject: Re: RotaxEngines-List: Re: 912(s) additive for 100LL > > --> RotaxEngines-List message posted by: Gilles Thesee <Gilles.Thesee@ac- > grenoble.fr> > > B Johnson a crit : > > --> RotaxEngines-List message posted by: "B Johnson" > <bjohnson@satx.rr.com> > > > > Thanks to all that responded...
