A good bit less than the UMA instruments (non-TSO'd) at Aircraft Spruce. http://www.wicksaircraft.com/catalog/product_cat.php/subid=2758/ index.html Thom in Buffalo ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:21:00 AM PST US From: "Thilo Kind" Subject: RotaxEngines-List: Water temps on Rotax 912 Hi, just came back from an hour flight with my Zodiac CH 601 HDS with a Rotax 912 UL. Made in unusual observation: the coolant temperature oscilated between 120 and 158 F with probably 5 minutes between the lowest and the highest peak. Given the current OAT the coolant temp would have stayed at around 125 F. Coolant is 50 % water and 50 % antifreeze. Anybody with an idea, what might has caused this? I have been running very hot water temperatures ever since- borderline too hot. Has anybody else run into this problem? Lockwood tech help asked me why I made the switch, saying they don't do it themselves. Thanks Ben ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 08:44:09 AM PST US From: "David Key" Subject: RE: RotaxEngines-List: Evans Coolant I use the Evans in my 912, works great for me. I have to shield off some of my oil cooler in the winter months because my coolant temps were at 170 now they are back to 190. >From: Ben Burbridge >To: rotaxengines-list@matronics.com >Subject: RotaxEngines-List: Evans Coolant >Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2006 11:23:37 -0500 > > > >In my 912 UL installed in a Kitfox III, after about 60 hours TT, I switched >to straight Evans coolant, doing the system flush as required- all as >advised by ROTAX. Has anybody else run into this problem?" Evans does not conduct as well as 50/50. I am not flying, but believe this is normal on Europas. I talked to Evans, and in automobiles they want you either to increase flow with a more powerful pump, or more cooling area on a larger radiator, or both to compensate for poorer conductivity. Once you reach higher temperatures, instead of boiling and not cooling hardly at all like 50/50, Evans will conduct a lot more, this is the real advantage. Did you calibrate your gauges to see if they are remote close to accurate? Downsides besides thermal conductivity less than 505/50, price, not readily available local, need to flush, is that it is flammable. I am going to try Evans on my 914 Europa first.
