Subject: | 912UL not Starting |
Need some help with a 912UL 300TT not starting after being off for a
year.
Have fuel at the carbs cleaned and new diaphragms installed. I can put
my hand over the carb inlets and turn it over and get lots of fuel.
Getting very weak spark and has only fired once or twice in hours of
testing. Eng turning over well (have jumped it ) I am looking if anyone
knows what the voltage outputs from the CDI boxes to the ignition coils
should be? I have 8 volts wile cranking at the red generator ignition
circuit cables circuit to ground ( both the same ) I get about 12 to 13
volts to the coils is this correct or too low? I have the old style
interference box but new style plugs. ( I replace them for something )

Check your valve clearance, Do not know much about 912's ,but do know
about four strokes.

Hi Paul,
First thing is try it with a new battery. The 912 must turn the prop at least 225
rpm for it to turn turn over. It may sound ok to you, but may be under the
225 rpm. Did you pull the main and idle jets and physically clean them? If you
need to test the prop rpm you can use a jumper cable and a car battery. This
will give you the cranking power to test the prop rpm. Use of the choke lever
only adds more fuel and is not a true choke. Do not add throttle when choking
the engine. That being said I have had to just barely crack the throttle on a
few to get them started. I said only crack the throttle. Let me know how the next
starting attempt turns out.
You can go online under Rotax or Kodiak and go under tech info and print out the
line main and the heavy maint manuals. they will tell you how to test electrical
components and what their values are.
