JetPilot a crit :

is very close to the reading you would get with a completely cold engine. Something
wrong in your readings, or in your reporting of temperatures. A CHT
100 degrees for a running engine is impossible.

Isn't there a confusion with Celsius ? The Rotax is a Eurapean engine.
100 degrees Celsius is quite normal for CHT in a cruise, whereas 150C
is the absolute redline.
By the way, the Rotax 91X are easy to cool once you do your air inlet
and diffuser homework.

Hi Giles,
Your right about the temps if he said they were Celcius, but he said they were
F. Most of us here in the US run our gages in F, but you have the option of using
C on a lot of gage sets.
Here is an easy, do it in your head, formula for converting C to F.
Take C and double it,
then minus 10% from that doubled number,
then add 32 to that number and you have F.
Example:
20 degrees C x 2 = 40
now minus 10% which is 4 which equals 36,
now add 36 + 32 = 68F
Example:
30c x 2 = 60,
minus 10% (60-6=56),
56 + 32 = 86F
Do it in your head easy. Now when they tell you on the radio it is 35c for an OAT,
you will know it's??????

Subject: | Setting up Rotax 447 Prop and Mixture, how do I do |

Here is a question for all you 2 stroke experts. I have a Rotax 447 that I just
bought a new powerfin adjustable prop for. How do I set it up for EGT's ?
I am going to set the pitch so that it is maximum torque at WOT, not redline
the rpm ! What EGT should I be looking for ? With the old wood prop on there,
it ran fine, but it would tend to bog down and die if I let it to idle and
increased the throttle rapidly. Only giving throttle very slowly would save
it. I think that means a rich idle, but im not totally sure. Any advice
on how to set up and jet this engine for the new prop and sea level altitude would
be appreciated.
Mike
