Many ultralight and ELSA have had translucent fuel tanks for up to 20 years. I
agree with Rob, I think it was meant as not to let your fuel set in the sun. Other
than that I have never heard of anyone having an issue. They still sell a
lot of these style fuel tanks.
Kolb aircraft has used them for years.

Licking the wounds of Rotax not getting the Cessna Light Sport contract.
Someday maybe VANS will move ahead with the RV-12 and there will be lots
of chatter.
