Roger,
Under what conditions were you getting 46 psi oil pressure? The 912 Operators Manual
states that normal oil pressure at 3500 rpm or higher is between 2.0 - 5.0
Bar (29-73 psi). Our 912UL with over 500 hours on it is running around 49psi
at normal cruise rpm with the engine at normal operating temperature.
After adding the shim, if you are getting 66 psi during cruise and a warm engine,
what is the initial oil pressure when starting and the engine is cold? Does
it get above 73psi?

Subject: | Re: Oil Pressure |
Hi Thom,
My 912 on my Kolb at 480 hrs. ran at 49 then dropped to 39 over the course up to
860 hrs.
My FDCT started at around 55 when new and now at 160 hrs. it was running at 46.
I know this is well within normal range, but I would prefer that it was a little
higher. I believe it does a better job of forcing oil into tight areas under
heavy use times, but I have no documentation to back that up. A lot of cars
and motorcycles run around the 60 psi range. When I start my engine and idle
at 1800-2000 rpm my pressure is about 65 and even when I am at cruise it seems
to stay there. My oil pressure never gets above 66 psi. I use Amsoil 20-50 motorcycle
oil. Less foaming characteristics and better shear qualities than Mobile
1 Racing 4XT. Moblie 1 is a good oil I just prefer Amsoil for my gear wear.
Have been using it, as a lot of other riders, in my Honda Goldwing for years. My
tranny in my Goldwing is absolutely smoother and quieter.
