Subject: Progress in Connecting Rotax 912uls to BlueMountainAvionics
    From: "rampil" <ira.rampil@gmail.com>
The story so far: I traded in my E/One for a Gen4 E/Two Rotax engines come with their own VDO probes in place. Phase Zero: Install engine pod with Gen 4 E/Two, Connect my two EGT thermocouples (my add-on to the Rotax) Add EGT probes are K-type Thermocouples, so these are Gen4 ok Connect 201b Floscan - Gen 4 compatible Connect Carb heat probe into my SkyDrive coolant-based carb heat E-bus voltage (comes from EFIS/Pod breaker) OAT is old E/One probe now into the DB-25 So far, so good. All up and working properly Only 1 gotcha in this phase: I needed Larry to explain to me that each probe needs to be individually turned on in the engine set-up page with the keyboard. Thanks Larry! This little point is one I could not find in the manual but requires scanning with the up/down arrow keys in the sensor label box. Phase One: Oil Pressure. Bought BMA oil pressure sender. This is a stainless cylinder and puts out 1-5 volts for 0-100 psi. Here is what I connected: A Vans AC Oil Restrictor (AN823-4 with a drilled out steel slug) into the ANPT 1/8-27 oil port Thence to an Aeroquip 666-4 with factory crimped AN 37 flares in CRES to an Aeroquip 2022-4-4S adapter to the 1/4" ANPT sender. Works fine! Phase Two: RPM. Bought Westach 720-12RIR (version with magnetic polarity to match my AirMaster prop ring). NB: magnetic polarity of AirMaster is RANDOM - try and see on your own. I found the positioning of the probe to be critical - wants to be exactly in-line with the rotating magnet and less than 1/16" at closest point. Now senses just fine. NB: Remember to multiply prop rpm by 2.43 to get limit ranges on screen. I.E., 2387 is the prop red line(5800 engine rpm), and 2263 is the bottom of the warning (5 minute) range (5500 engine rpm) Senses rpm just fine. I feel another Larry consult coming on to explain how to set color ranges on dial since I can't seen to them to produce what I want. Phase Three:Oil Temp, CHTs. These are the hard ones. Rotax supplies VDO sensors in a custom form factor which VDO produces strictly for Rotax. However, the electrical R vs T curves cal tables are available on the VDO site for precise calibration. I have hooked these probes up to Engine pod and get "a" temp. Now I sit and wait for an unspecified post-Christmas miracle!
