i hope this answers your question.
speaking from my experience in my normal day-job for sure the ign and fuel systems
used on most airplane engine is a bit stone age but as the flying folks is
a bit Conservative if it don't break don't fix it.
but carbs are ok ish as we do most of the running the engine with a constant rpm
so the advantages are less but for sure the altitude compensation would bit
a lot better with proper maping and therefore mixture compensation.
