I have a Kitfox S-7 with a Rotax 912ULS w/o the airbox. My static RPM has
always been 4700 or less even though the engine runs very smooth and tops o
ut at 5800rpm. I have tried numerous pitch settings on my Powerfin prop to
get these numbers. My worry is that my mag drop has always been 380 or so
per side even though all the other numbers are within specs. The performa
nce is great with about 150 ft takeoff and 105mph at 5200 rpm. I took a ha
lf inch off the prop and it helped a little. Any ideas will be greatly app
reciated. Rich

What rpm are you doing the mag check at? The higher the rpm when you do a mag check
the higher the mag drop. My CT drops approximately
70-80 rpm at 3500rpm. Mag check should not drop more than 300 rpm on either ignition
and no more than 115rpm between ignition systems A & B.
With that prop pitch setting to achieve 5800 rpm I bet you climb very well and
take off is short. Unless you have a reason to be that high you might want to
consider adding some pitch back into the prop to bring it down a little (around
5500, which is continuous WOT rpm). It will still run and perform well. Only
5 min. run time on anything over 5500. The higher rpm if not needed for a special
duty will just be a little harder on the engine as you accumulate higher
engine time.

I appreciate the description on how to remove and replace the throttle
shaft screws. It certainly seemed to me that the butterfly is self
centering when closed, and the screws go in nicely. The throttle
either works well or not at all!
Now I am more than a little puzzled because my newly rebuilt carbs are
flooding out, or at least one of them is. Could be a stuck float,
which seems most likely, but I am not sure. The Bing manual talks
about how the atomizer must be oriented properly, front to back, where
it tops out in the carburetor throat. I didn't notice that the it
has a high side or a low side, and I wonder if it does on the 64?

Hi Jack,
Could be a float. Double check the float arms lever. Do you have fuel coming out
the overflow? Might check the fuel shut off needle. They should be 10.5mm from
the edge of the carb when held upside down. If not this can allow either too
much fuel (flooding) or too little depending which way one may be bent. If you
rebuilt your carb make sure you put the enricher valve back in right side up.
How old are the carbs? If they are old then the newer rebuild kit has some
newer style floats. There are two rebuild kits and the higher priced one comes
with new floats.
Just a few thoughts.

Roger,
Yes I have fuel coming out of the overflow at mid to high range
throttle settings. I did in fact put the enrichener in upside down at
first, but rotated it 180 degrees when it did not work. I will take
them off and check again. I didn't measure the float lever arms, but
when pushed gently up to the stop, they are parallel with the carb
body edge. These carbs are from 2003, so not very old. Thanks for
your ideas. It will be a few days before I get back to it.
