Johann,
The Rotax starter contactor is rated at 75 amps, and the current draw
can briefly reach the 100-120 amp mark, so a 30 amp fuse is definitely
too small. If your friend really wants to fuse the starter wires, an ANL
rated at at least 150 amps is in order, but he'll be adding weight for
no real gain.
There is usually no fuse on the fat wire feeding the starter motor on
light airplanes. The rationale is that the battery is not able to
overheat the big wire in case of fault. Rotax starter runs well with an
AWG 6 wire.
Of course the other wires should be protected by a fuse or a
circuit-breaker.
Best regards,
--

Johann--
You do not indicate whether or not this is a issue that just came up or i
s it a new installation.
If it is a new installation you might check to insure you have a good groun
d to the engine. Make sure all contacts are clean and tight.
Has the starter been check for proper operation. When power is applied do
es it engage the ring gear and then stall (blow the fuse), or does it not e
ven engage. Might need some grease.

Subject: | High Oil Pressure |
I seem to have a new problem after the last oil change. At startup, warm-up and
takeoff it is a steady 69-72. After about 15 Min's in the air it starts fluctuating
from 79-92. It was even higher (99), with the Rotax oil filter. I changed
to an after-market and it came down about 10 lbs. I checked the Oil Sender
connections. The engine is running great otherwise so I'm not sure whats
wrong. Any Ideas? Thanks
Rich
