The question of oil. There is no way to answer this question ,you can
continue to use Pennzoil and pay the extra or simply go to another brand. I
have always used castrol super TT .No problems . I have flown over 400hrs on
castrol in a 503 and have had no problems with engine lubricaton. Our
engines are not operating under high stress and as long as the operating
temps are in the ball park then any oil that meets the manufacturers specs
should be OK. Fly with what you are happy with. If thats penz$oil then pay
the extra. I would not.I have seen stripped engines that have been run on
penzoil and others run on other brands. I have see little difference in
cylinder wear and stuck rings . My opinion is that set up is more important
.

had some interesting things to say. I had previously bought 12 Challenger 9124's
which are for sale cheap because they wouldn't take them back. I can look
down the holes and see the bottom of the filter. No drainback protection among
other things. The PL10241 was the aftermarket choice but it is too long to
fit on my engine. If I can't find one I will have to buy more Rotax filters.
They are $30+ at Aircraft Spruce and $21 at CPS. I wanted to make one more try
before I ordered.
Er, never mind what I said about the Rotax filter..... My new one was leaking this
morning after a few flights around the patch.
I've gone back to the Mobile 1 M1-102, which I think is a little better filter
and is available locally.
I looked at the Rotax filter after I pulled it off a little while ago and from
what I could tell there was no visible deformation of the gasket or anything.
But that freaked me out a bit that it was leaking after being installed and tightened
to Rotax' 3/4 turn spec.......
I went one full turn on the Mobile 1 and after a runup it was dry.
Don't know if this was the filter's fault or not, but I'm going to stick with the
Mobile 1 for a while.....
