The Rotax Line Maintenance Manual Check List, Section 05-20, page 11, sub-section 2.2.13 Spark Plugs, b) Replacing Spark Plugs shows a foot note 1 at the 100 hour interval (or annually), which ever comes first. The foot note simply states only applicable for engine types 912S/ULS/ULSFR. I am confused about these designations as they would or would not apply to a 912UL. I have a 912UL and need to know if I am to replace the plugs at 100 hrs (or annually which ever comes first). What is the replacement interval for a 912UL? Here is the finished one. My Allegro 2000 is an E-LSA so I don't have your paperwork and approval problem. However, based on how my Allegro is performing I have not yet decided that I need the VGs. I do know that they improve performance at the lower speeds, but how much? The Allegro is such a slick plane and it glides so well, I'm not sure I would put the VGs on. The choice would seem to me to be a personal one rather than a "major change in performance". I may be wrong, and am open to the opinion of others. In my opinion, based on my experience over the past 3 years with Fantasy Air Czech Republic), as well as the US Distributor, you will have a very difficult time getting them to do the testing and paperwork to satisfy the FAA. In fact I personally would not waste my time! I would rather spend it flying and enjoying life. I imagined getting a mod approved would be a difficult process. In the case of the VGs, I would think Fantasy Air would want their test pilot to do test flights. The factory does not have the best reputation for responding to customers and I doubt they would make the effort to test the VGs. If Hugh or anyone else is seriously interested, maybe we could get the factory interested. When I was in Czech in 2005, I offered to pick up the tab for fuel if they paid their test pilot for a series of test flights. For the price of your hide, the plane and your engine's health that's cheap. I change all the planes I work on at 75 hrs. and oil at 50 hrs. if no 100LL. If they use mostly 100LL I change it at 25 hrs. If you change plugs at 75 hrs. that's only about $.30-$.40 cents per hour for all 8 plugs. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. I thought your Allegro was SLSA. You are right that you can do anything you want and anybody can work on it. For the SLSA bunch that needs the approval letter, you do not need them to do any testing. You sign off on the letter that it still falls within SLSA standards. There's a special little statement at the bottom of the document that keeps you honest and it puts any issues in your court not the MFG's. I have 6 of those letters. The letter has your name, plane ID serial number , N number, the reason for the work, what you did, what parts you used and some pictures. Then the statement at the bottom that the mods will not put you out of the SLSA category. You sign it and the US Mfg stamps it. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
