Rocky and Roger,
Thanks for your replies. I have replaced the P leads and that seems to
have solved the problem with one "mag' running rougher than the other. I pulled
the old leads and still can't find any problem with them. Oh well, the new ones
are working.
As too the dieseling I have switched to premium auto fuel for these hot
summer months and so far it hasn't happened again. Roger,I thought the timing
was fixed on the 912.
I also removed the Rotax tach and installed the new UMA tach and my
"spiking" problem with the Rotax gage stopped. The new tach also has a wire that
powers the Hobbs so that it runs only with the engine turning which is a nice
feature. (also has internal painted range marks)

Subject: | Spring Loading on the 912 carbs |
Hi,
I have a question for your guys.
Is there any chance of stretching the throttle springs on the 912 carbs if you
leave the throttle fully closed when the airplane is parked? It seems to me that
if you hold a spring at a certain tension over a long period of time, it might
lose some of it's tension.
Is that not enough tension on the spring to worry about?
Thanks

I didn't think you could adjust timing on a 912 Rotax? I thought it was fixed?

Jack,
Yes, that's correct. The timing is fixed, controlled by a set of lugs
on the flywheel and sensors on the frame.
I guess you could get in and grub around with the sensor position but
you are treading on thin ice at that point.
Good building and great flying,

Hi Jack,
For the most part you are correct that timing is not something to mess with , but
if the ignition coils are not set up correctly or go bad there will be a change.
There are 5 coils. The 5th. is the trigger coil for the tach.

Hi Tommy,
I don't think I have ever heard of a spring going bad from leaving the throttle
closed. I think most people leave their planes that way. I have had 912's for
a long time and not had any issues. I have to say that is one part I have never
replaced.
