Has anyone changed the the fluid in their airplane from Evans to Antifreeze. Any suggestion as to how much to flush the system prior to filling with Antifreeze, also what brand of Antifreeze do they recommend. Don't use the green antifreeze because it is not compatible with aluminum. Michael, There is no real need to flush the cooling system after using Evans +. It is mainly propylene glycol, which mixes nicely with water. By the way, there is no problem with adding water to Evans+. What happens is just that any amount of water will tend to lower the advertised higher boiling point of pure Evans. Ordinary 50/50 mix contains ethylene glycol. No problem with traces of Evans in 50/50 . > also what brand of Antifreeze do they recommend. See SI 912 016 R1 on the Rotax owner website http://www.rotax-owner.com/si_tb_info/serviceinfo/si-912-016r1.pdf Best regards, -- Gilles http://contrails.free.fr ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 07:57:42 PM PST US From: Ben Burbridge Subject: RotaxEngines-List: setting prop pitch I have a 912UL with a two-blade Warp Drive prop, and am not getting static rpm of 5,200. I am about to re-set the pitch, and can't remember the recommended degrees of pitch. Does anybody know? Thanks. You want to set your prop so your engine turns 5500 WOT flat and level at the general altitude that you normally fly. I never worry or even bother with static rpm. I know what to add or remove in pitch if you tell me what you are currently running WOT at your average altitude. 5500 WOT is the best all around compromise for your ground adjustable prop and Rotax 912ULS engine combo. I only set it different for special circumstances and flight characteristics. I have a 3 blade Warp Drive. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. Just read the jug it will tell you for sure. Most engine cooling systems now days have aluminum in them some more than others. I changed back from Evans to 50/50 because of the increase in temps (30F) on my particular plane. I used Evans last 912 and it was fine because my engine was more exposed and cooling was a little better. I do like Evans I just have a temp problem in my plane with it. I pop the lowest hose off the system and and put my hand over the fill spout on the coolant and blow down through the system. This gets most of it out. Like mentioned above you really don't need to get all the Evans out. It has the same make up as a lot of antifreeze's just no water. When you go back to 50/50 you need to lower your max coolant temp to 248F. If you don't have a coolant gauge then watch the CHT temps as they are very close. You never said why you wanted to change? If you don't have a temp issue why change. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
