on a ro Keith, Where are you located at 9100 ft ? Quito Ecuador ? That's some high flying. Wish I lived at that altitude and had some nice mountains to fly around rather than this flat land. Although the temp is nice this time of year.(sucks in the summer !) Dick Maddux Kitfox 4 Rotax 912UL Pensacola,Fl **************Need a job? Find an employment agency near you. on a ro You are SOOOOOO close, (I live just West of Colorado Springs, CO) Native of Colorado, grew up on a 10 section farm/ranch in Eastern Colorado, now I live in the mountains of Colorado. I am lucky to have it both ways, flat land within a 40min. flight from my house. The only thing I don't have is the ocean, but that's ok!! Hi Stan, Of course, everyone here has opinions and they are all entitled to them. In the Europa crowd there are dozens of 914s flying. The big issue is installation with adequate cooling. Reliability has not been an issue. Two anecdotes may be the basis of your opinion, but they do not really inform the group here. Do you happen to have the URLs to the NTSB factual reports? Also, recall that the Predator UAV flies a 914 (not quite stock with fuel injection and triple stage turbo to get to FL600) My opinion, not well informed is that a one off design of a 3rd party turbo would be less reliable that a factory designed and tested system with warranty backup. -------- Ira N224XS Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=230512#230512

Hello Ira I do understand that the 914 has a good track record, at least for the most part. It is simply not the engine for me. I do not have reports on the accidents that I referenced, but they did involve two of my good friends. One was a Lockwood Air Cam in Alaska, and the other was a Just Highlander in South Carolina. Please note that it is not my intent to talk down the 914 to anyone here. I simply don't care for the stock engine, and again, I feel that it is WAY over priced for what it is. I currently have a 914 engine without the turbo setup, so I don't plan on purchasing another engine. I like the 912 series engines quite a bit, and have had great success with them. I would simply like to find the components to put an aftermarket turbo charger on engine and save myself a large amount of money, and not have to "re-invent the wheel". If anyone it taking offence to my not wanting a stock 914 engine, I am sorry for that, as it is not my intent to offend anyone. I have simply asked for any information on after market turbos and associated parts for a Rotax 912 engine. Thanks, Stan

Hi Again Stan, You got me curious, so I went to the NTSB site and pulled the records for accidents involving the 914. There are three accidents from 2000-2009 Two are fatal stall spins - pilot error, no engine problem NTSB Identification: DFW07LA026., NTSB Identification: MIA01LA170. One was the famous Stemme Engine fire: NTSB Identification: CHI01LA216 where a fuel hose just above the exhaust got cooked. In the same time period there were 1147 accident involving lycoming and 1024 for Continentals -------- Ira N224XS Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=230517#230517

Hi Stan, No offense taken! Fortunately, we can do pretty much what we want, which is why we have that big EXPERIMENTAL on our AC! I just don't want to see anyone hurt. -------- Ira N224XS Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=230559#230559
