Will the Pure One PL10241 (or any of the suggested substitutes) clear the exhaust pipe on a 914? Alternatively, the best price I've found on Rotax is $21.09 at California Power Systems. Anybody found a better price? Rotax sent out a directive a few months ago saying that ONLY ROTAX genuine parts are to be used on their engines. What this means to me is that if an airplane owner doesnt follow this directive. and there is and insurance claim on the aircraft, it may not be covered under your insurance carrier since the manufactuer's specs werent followed. Just food for thought. Looks like I need to order four of the part number 831-842. Any suggestions where to buy them from? (I'm in Georgia.) I'll be taking the Rotax 2 stroke class in April with Aero Technical Institute to learn more about my engine, but want to tackle this job sooner since it's making quite the mess. From the picture in the CPS catalogue it looks like they just sit (two a piece) in between the engine and manifold. Anything else to consider? -------- Cristal Waters Kolb Mark II Twinstar Rotax 503 DCSI Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=233812#233812 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 08:11:32 PM PST US From: Joe Harrington Subject: Re: RotaxEngines-List: 503 Exhaust Gasket replacement You will have to replace the gaskets but there is likely more to it. Every Rotax 2-stroke I have had has warped the Y manifold after a few hours of running. The fix is to plane the mating surface of the Y pipe. My Rotax Service Centre rep told me to take the Y pipe off and plane on a flat belt sander. Do it once and it should be good for the life of the engine (manifold). It worked for me every time, no more leaks. Another issue is when you have the cylinders off for any reason, you need to make sure they true. The exhaust ports need to be in plane (in line). Nothing special about it. Many people use the Pure One PL10241 or the Fram Tough Guard 3614. There are about 8 others. The Pure One is head and shoulders above the others including Rotax. Using a different filter is a personal choice. A Pure One and the Fram will not clear my exhaust header because it is about 1/2" longer than Rotax. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
