(Highwing LLC)During the cold of winter (which isn't much here) I cut a piece of a magazine cover and slid it behind the shutters to block additional air and was able to control the temp very well without tape stuck to the cooler (which also works) The nice thing is that you can control the oil temp from the cockpit. Emergency landing was ok with no damage to the Quicksilver neither to the pilot. This engine is Oil injection and use Penzoil oil The engine was working perfect and sudenly the RPM beguin to drop until it stop completely :( We decide to open the motor today and we remove "only" the cylinders. This is what we found. (Next weekend I will open the crankcase to see what I find. If you check the pics you will see a cooper color part. This part was stuck on the crankshaft. Were this part coming from? Were it goes in the engine and why this happened? Any clue? The thing is that a 582 is exactly the same engine to a 5xx or 6xx that you find in a Ski-Doo or Sea-Doo The only diference is that the 582 use 2 spark plug for cylinder and it use 2 magnetos BUT I "think" thats are the only diferences. For example a Crankshaft for a Sea-Doo 587 including all new main and wrist-pin bearings, inner seals and rods. Trued & welded to better than OEM specifications is available for U$195.00 and the same part for a 582 is around U$1,000.oo Do any body has a cross reference of what parts we can use? Using a after market crank(welded) on a flying machine is bad news , thats why rotax stopped the cranks being rebuilt , too many failing. -------- Austria ............. Only thing I haven't done is replace the gauge although judging by the color of the plugs (white insulator only faintly browned with soot) it's probably fairly accurate. Even took my little non contact/laser thermometer to the exhaust man's and it verifies the difference. Carbs were rebuilt and cleaned too. > > I understand from a friend with a 532 that the front crank seal can be replaced on the plane with the engine in the aircraft. Is this true? I've never had the gearbox off and it might be a good excuse to do that and inspect things anyway but I need a link for confidence. No you cant as there is a lip on the seal. Folks do this then the new seal blows out...... -------- Austria ............. Bet you find the conrod blue from heat. Usually caused by corrosion on the needle rollers then run. Engine sat in a humid hanger ? -------- Austria .............
