At 20 large plus a pop, I wouldn't necessarily like to experiment with new chemicals in a 912 series engine.... ;) As for octane boosters, I can't see why you'd ever need to use them. The 912ULS is the only one that requires 91 octane at least and that's met by just regular premium pump gas. The rest are all fine with 87, which is just regular pump gas. 10% ethanol has been approved by Rotax also, and folks have been using it in the engines for years anyway. So ethanol is a known quantity with relatively well known precautions you have to take on the fuel system. So I personally would avoid them. If you can't get premium pump gas, you can always mix with 100LL to get the octane up to where it needs to be.... The company filed a notice of insolvency (definition - PDF) with German authorities 10 days ago but that's not as dire as it sounds according to Ken Weaver, executive vice president of marketing and communications for the three companies that make up the ***** group. In fact, he said, it's the foundation for the development for new programs that will be announced in 2010. "This is not a bankruptcy," he said. "It is a procedural option that is open to us under German commercial law that will allow us to launch these programs in 2010." Legal considerations prevented him from providing more detail in time for AVweb's publishing deadline. Weaver said the move allows ***** to make changes to its corporate structure necessary to carry out its future plans. He said there is no equivalent in U.S. commercial law so the action has been misinterpreted as a collapse of the company. Weaver said that, in fact, the restructuring will lead to even greater accessibility to its products in the future as part of a resurgence of interest in general aviation. AOPA chose a ***** light sport aircraft as its sweepstakes prize for the coming year. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. I added some octane booster to the wing tanks, shook the plane a bit and went flying. The engine acted normally during flight and on shutdown. So I would say it worked OK on that one trial In the past if I waited that long without cycling thru the fuel, I could sure tell that the octane had dropped. It doesn't take long (not even a month I have been told) Dick Maddux Kitfox4 912UL Milton,Fl ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 05:56:16 AM PST US Subject: RotaxEngines-List: Re: Octane booster From: "Roger Lee" I agree with Lucien -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. I feel to be very lucky to be living in a place where they don't put any ethanol in our gas. A couple of years ago one ship load of ethanol laced gas actually made it to our shores but the end result was the ship immediately had to go for refit. I don't think they will do that again. It is beyond me how they will ever get the quantity of alcohol here for use as a fuel. I was just doing some research and came across some good research and thought I would post it since many people have talked about this subject over the years. If your fuel system can handle it then it would be fine, but as Jim suggest make sure first. To answer your question I do not know where you can get these two products. I would check online. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
