From: "Roger Lee" How many hours on the engine and do you use 100LL? If it sat a real long time and oil purge would be a really good idea. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. Roger,=0A=0AI have no idea how many hours are on this engine. That is why I believe the guy I picked the motor up from had the lower end checked and r eplaced the bearings and put in new piston-rings. He claims he did not to uch the valves because the appeared okay. I didn't know about the part of n ot doing the valves until recently. And yes, I would say it has burned 100L L a good portion of its life. I had sitting in my garage for at least-1 y ear and yes I did purge the oil system.-During--hand prop to purge th e system is when I first heard the faint popping and a little resistance. -It was after two run-ups and then two days of sitting that I went to rot ate the prop that I found it very difficult to rotate. I should note I-ch ecked valve clearance after the second warm up and nothing seemed wrong wit h offending intake valve. As I said I sprayed some LPS-directly to the va lve stem through the removed intake-pipe and it helped it free it up but still not perfect.-What do you think?- Major or put a little lube in the gas for a while.=0AGeorge=0ASport Model(7+)- Rotax 914- almost, but not yet!=0Ado not archive =0A=0A=0A=0A=0A________________________________=0AFrom: Roger L ee =0ATo: rotaxengines-list@matronics.com=0ASent: Sat, December 12, 2009 5:17:09 AM=0ASubject: RotaxEngines-List: Re: 914 Intake diver1@yahoo.com>=0A=0AHow many hours on the engine and do you use 100LL? From: "Roger Lee" Some of these 914's have been military surplus. It is what is used in the Predator aircraft. If I bought a used 914 it would help to get a history on the engine. If it has had a long life of 100LL then it probably needs a valve job and have the seats reamed. You can not do a valve job like a car. The valves are armored. (too hard). Valves need replacement, the seats can be re-worked. Have you done a compression test. This may tell a more complete story. All this said this can be hard to diagnose over email. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
