Ira,
That is the correct sizes for the fuel hoses but not the water coolant
hoses,they are 17 mm.
I also went with the blue oil hose(from CPS)

Yeah these would work for me if I could get different lengths.... But that's how
I ended up just buying some pipe and a beading tool in the end....
Fortunately the local O'reilly's car parts place carries Gates water hose which
is good stuff, so I can use that to manufacture my tubes.
The $60/meter 17mm hose for the water tubes on the engine is also just Gates heater
hose, but it's in 17mm which to my knowledge is not available in the US _except_
through Rotax dealers. I think that's why it's so expensive - goes from
Gates to Europe, then through Rotax then back here through their dealers....
Lots of markup there......
I've been considering replumbing the water hoses on the engine when I break it
open to replace the radiator hoses but inspecting them now they're still in such
good condition I might just go "on condition" instead on those. They're still
pliable and no cracks or deterioration so seems excessive to replace them all.
I'll make a much closer inspection of the tubes with a magnifying glass etc
when I break it open for the radiator hoses, but it may be a ain't-broke-yet-so-don't-fix-it
on the water tubes....

Yeah I was considering this one too, but I couldn't get enough info on what size
I needed to get to bead the tubing I'm going to use. So I just went with the
Parker tool to make sure I can do the job right and not have to go back and forth
trying to get the right size tool etc....
And I'll have it around so other folks can use it in case they need it etc...

Hi Dick,
You are absolutely correct, the coolant hose is 17 mm and should be
available from any hose shop.
I bought mine locally and just had to tell the clerk that it was for a marine
inboard engine since they don't sell to aircraft! Same deal when I had
to originally buy inner tubes for the nose gear - the local tire shops will
only sell the tubes if they are for a go-kart, not an aircraft!

Not a deal at all
The 2" size is $400
Then are size specific just like the old Parker kit. Here is a description:
* Tubing Beaders, EZ Beader, for 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 1, 1 1/4, 1
1/2, 1 3/4, 2 in. Tube Outside Diameter, Kit
They don't even sell 1/4" or 5/16" for fuel lines
The Bingillis book has a description for a diy tool that works for
about 3/4" and larger. I made one and the results are marginal but functional.

PS: In a pinch when I broke my 5.16" beader on steel tubing I just
lightly threaded the tube end using an oversized metric die. The
result was a nice rough surface to grip the hose. Used on a EFI truck
45psi max still holding after 5 years.
Best bet for a aircraft tube is find a shop with the Parker tools.
Keep searching machine shops and radiator shops. All auto coolant
connections are beaded.

12 was 1"=2C ect=2C ect. Price went up as the size got bigger. Take care

Ok, will call around.
I've thought about just flaring the ends myself if I could find an
appropriate tool. Smoothing it off and then pushing the hose over that.
What thickness of tubing you guys think would be sufficient? I guess 6061 on
the grade is probably good enough, just wondering about the thickness?
If I come up snake eyes, Rick, I'll just have you make a pair of em for me

What is wrong with using automotive hoses on the Rotax? Many of the late
model vehicles have very creative hose assemblies and if you visit the
warehouse section of your local auto supplier you can quite often find a
very nicely shaped hose with just the right preformed bends that eliminates
many of the connected elbows necessary when using straight hoses. It seems
to me that one fairly continuous formed hose if safer than connected bits.
After all, how many of us change out our auto hoses every few years and how
many actually fail. I believe the pressures would be quite similar to modern
vehicles. Comments?

Lucien, This is Spruce's table for 3003-O tubing. The least of the tubing
used for lines. For formability, I'd go with 5052-O, it's not heat treated
and you can get it both in .035 and .049. I'd be perfectly happy with the
.035. If you aren't worried about weight, go with copper tubing and polish
it up. When I ran air lines in my shop I checked the spec on the thinest
wall copper in 3/4" and it was rated to over 1000 psi.

Subject: | Re: Speaking of coolant hoses... |
I have automotive hoses on my engine. I do have some of the pre-shaped
pieces held together with hard copper fittings. Originally when the plane
had the R582 it had a heater plumbed in with 1 / 2" hard copper pipe... no
leaks and no problems.
The only problem I had was getting exact metric sizes, even for that there
are workarounds. The minor problem I have now is the oil cooler I have uses
5/8" fittings while the engine fittings are much smaller.

I believe the pressures would be quite similar to modern
vehicles. Comments?

Another thought.. Take a piece to the 6061 to the muffler shop and have them
expand a little ring heat it up at home and shrink it onto the pipe!

If I come up snake eyes, Rick, I'll just have you make a pair of em for me
;)
Thanks,
