" Well, so much for that.... Oh well. Anyone know of any other acceptable substitutes on the ducati (that last more than 100-200 hours)? I thought about just a basic motorcycle regulator, but those are generally just as expensive and burn up at about the same rates.... From: "Thom Riddle" Lucien, I've owned three 912 powered airplanes and never had a Ducati regulator fail. But I never went in for a lot of high electrical load devices either. I never had nor wanted a glass cockpit but two of my airplanes had transponders, strobe lights. One of them had transponder, strobes and landing lights. That one had over 700 hours on original regulator when we sold the airplane. -------- Thom Riddle Buffalo, NY Kolb Slingshot SS-021 Jabiru 2200A #1574 Tennessee Prop 64x32 An honest politician is one who, when he is bought, will stay bought. - Simon Cameron Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=286920#286920 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 07:17:55 AM PST US Subject: RotaxEngines-List: Re: What is the max temp for Ducati regulator? Well I'm on the 3rd one in this plane already and am, er, eagerly awaiting it to burn out so I can go out and buy another one ;). What seems to be the case is the failure rate really gets high when it gets a load put on it. The last one lasted a iittle under 100 hours, but I wasn't keeping the battery relentlessly topped off at all times with a battery charger. Also, I had my old incandescent nav lights at the time, those plus the strobe would always cause it to run behind a bit. So it was always having to charge the battery a little bit during the day when the lights were off or having an extra load on it in the evenings. The new one is around 50 hours so far and is still working, but again because I do all this extra stuff to keep it from having to actually have a load on it. If it does have to charge the battery or power lights, etc., it's hot to the touch when I get back to the hangar (until it burns out that is)...... For what it's worth Lockwood mentioned if you insiston asking internal generator to produce more than 12 amps continuous, besides needing to replace regulators, it burns up windings in generator. I installed a B+C SD20S alternator onaccessary drive with a LR3C regulator: http://www.bandc.biz/index.aspx Ain't cheap but a real jewel. There are some that mount aux alternator off back of motor on Europas that provide a faster spin. If your plane/prop will allow you could go with front belt driven ND. Ron Parigoris BTW I went with a switch from Flaming River mounted in headrest instead of using precious amps to drive a battery relay/solenoid. ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 08:55:10 AM PST US Subject: RotaxEngines-List: Re: What is the max temp for Ducati regulator? I kinda thought if you keep regulator as cool as you can that if you obey 12 amps max. continuous that the regulators last for a semi reasonable time?Thx.Ron Parigoris Its a 912ULS. My current draw is about 10A max and when that occurs it's intermittant (i.e. I start turning things off and let the battery charge at that point). The regulator is just too light-duty to handle continuous operation at its rated power dissipation. Just needs heftier semiconductors in it and a bigger heat sink..... either that or move the decimal place on the price over to the left one spot to make the cost correspond to its quality ;) LS -------- LS Titan II SS Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=286961#286961 ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 12:58:11 PM PST US Subject: RotaxEngines-List: Re: HOSE FOR ROTAX 912 From: "sdemeyer" Dick Maddux wrote: > > > Today I am going to try and find the formed hose that goes from the spyder to number three cylinder.
