Roger,
Did you find the renewal class useful or just a block filler? Also how much was
it?

Hi Terry,
The one day update focuses on all the changes in the manuals and goes over the
SB's. I think everyone got different things out of the class. I found it useful
because it covered things not normally covered in Rotax school, not to mention
it was required and I have to have it. It is $300. I am going back in two weeks
to do the Heavy maint class that I need. You need the heavy class if you
are going to rebuild carbs or work on gearboxes. FAA and Rotax are starting to
enforce the rules. I would not be an A&P and do a Rotax engine any more if I
didn't have the school or the update to be current.

Subject: | Bing 54 flooding only 1 cylinder - where is the dirt |
lodged?
Well, I installed some new fuel line cause my old black rubber was
getting 'old'. Engine was dialed in PERFECTLY before this. Must have
dislodged some crap in the process.....
Now, one cylinder at idle generates almost no reading on my EGT
yet the other cylinder is at 900 to 1000 at idle. I immediately shut down
and found wet spark plugs in that one cylinder only. After drying the plugs I
checked again at 4000rpm, and everything runs pretty well, so it looks like it's
'idle' issues.
(and no, mag check had no effect.)
So, I did the obvious: I pulled all the jets and checked them
for junk. Found a little bit of junk, cleaned it good and carefully,
and replaced all the jets back in the carb. Even pulled the mixture needle and
checked it plus the float valve, got em all clean, but STILL SAME SYMPTOMS!
What have I missed? What spot are "out of sight" that are hard to clean that would
create this scenario? Any hidden orifice or pathway? And of course, the obvious
question, how do I clean it out safely and get back to running?
Thanks guys...

Have you thought about a sticking valve? And is the spark getting to that
cylinder ?

Well do you mean 'float valve'? Remember, the engine was running perfect just
the day prior to my swapping out the rubber hoses - it's about 99% sure and obstruction
in my book.
