From: "Thom Riddle" On the Bing 54 carbs there is a spring in the enricher plunger but if the cable is binding it needs to be lubricated or replaced. You can purchase a cable lubrication device at bicycle, mototcycle shops or the aircraft supply houses. I've found that lubing the cables annually before they start binding extends their operating life a long time but once they start binding its time to replace them. -------- Thom Riddle Buffalo, NY Kolb Slingshot SS-021 Jabiru 2200A #1574 Tennessee Prop 64x32 An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory. - Friedrich Engels Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=288476#288476 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:58:45 AM PST US Subject: RotaxEngines-List: Re: Rotax-Owners Starts charging for Info From: "Roger Lee" FYI, Something I did not know about the R.O.A.N. website was it is not Rotax. It is an independent group. They get no money from Rotax. I guess that is why they needed money for the support services they provide. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. I've found that a spray with WD-40 on the cable you can see and a rag soaked in WD-40 run along the part of the cable you can't spray will loosen up a binding cable instantly. So I do that a couple of times a year. Haven't had to replace a cable since new - 1993. From: "lucien" Seems like this always starts a fight when i say this, so I'll just say it duck out ;) Most cables that use the teflon housing are designed not to be lubricated and in fact lubricating them causes more problems than leaving them dry. The general rule of thumb is like Thom said, once they start binding it's pretty much time to replace them. You can temporarily use a worn/binding cable by spraying some silicone lube into it with the appropriate oiler (like the ones from a bike shop, etc), I wouldn't use anything other than silicone lube because heavier oils can thicken up and inhibit the cable. But it's usually not a good idea to lubricate a cable that's already in good condition to begin with. But here I'm thinking of the typical throttle cable we use, there are probably other types that are designed to require lubrication (so best to check on this with the cable you use). We have had problems a couple of times with sticky choke cables. They were cured easily by spraying Rust-Check (a thin red-coloured oil in a spray can) into the ends of the cables. The oil seems to be sucked in by capillary action. Work the choke lever in and out a few times. End of problem. Rust-Check is sold in Canada at Canadian Tire, but is probably an American product (my can is at the airport!).
