From: "dashwood" I use the spot tracker myself. a most reliable tool. only drawback is the 10 min interval. it always draws a straight line between . so in you are doing some out and back or circles. they don't show up. question. why the northerly arch to the path. you seem to be following the road. the map show just a gray area. what is this. high terrain? restricted space? -------- Ross Aalexander: CH701 driver 912ul 450tt Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=317185#317185 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:45:36 AM PST US From: "Kevin Klinefelter" Subject: Re: RotaxEngines-List: Re: Follow me on SPOT... From: Robert Borger Ross, I checked the VFR Chart using AirNav.com and those areas to the south of the course are Restricted Areas and Military Operating Areas. Not to mention they are nasty desert basin and range where you would not want to have to set down and wait for help. Better to follow the road and take a longer way around. But how does it know you have crashed? Don't you have to activate the emergency locate feature manually? I can think of a lot of scenarios where you wouldn't have time or would fail to remember while the S*** was hitting the fan! I just moved my Sky Ranger to another airport in Montana, and flew over the continental divide near Glacier Park. Rough country, to say the least!! The 80 hp 912 doesn't mind 10,000 feet in the least. We were impressed. The next year he had miniaturised the module so that it sat in the footballer's Hat! That precipitated all these pachage company trucks sending their position to company HQ regularly (and telling the boss when they were still!!) Since then a number of hams have used it to send their position home to the computer for record keeping. You can see this on www.APRS.org. Like Spot, thing is, where the dots stop is where the prang is. If the oil temp looks like a ping pong ball, first check the wire connection on the sensor and make sure it is tight. The oil temp hopping around is usually a bad contact or wire connection. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. Yes the button has to be pushed for them, but if all else fails and the big heart attack hits and you can't push the button to summon help then the little flagged locator's will be all in the same place and at least someone will know where you are. I think most times most people will be able to push the button. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. From: "Roger Lee" I would have flown through those restricted areas, but I couldn't get clearance. It is fairly flat terrain with a little mountain here and there. It looks like I flew the road because that is where I-8 is, but I was just trying to stay a little north of the restricted areas in reality. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
