Hi my name is Bob. I was hoping someone could answer a question on pressure testing the crank case on a 503 DCDI Rotax to check for seal leaks. My question is, is there a seal in the middle of the crank to completely seal the front half of the engine from the rear half? By looking In the parts manual there does not appear to be that type of a seal too completely seal a cross feed in the crank case. I am asking this question because we made four in block off plates for both intake and exhaust ports. So I blocked off all four ports and put the gauge and pressure in the mag side intake port to 7 psi. The pressure did not hold. So then I started checking with soapy water to see if my plates were sealed. I used old gaskets and the plates were leaking. The thing I noticed was the PTO block off plates were leaking air even though I was pressure testing the mag end of the crankcase. I have been told by one guy that the center crank shaft seals are leaking. Is this true or are they suppose to cross feed to lubricate the center crank shaft bearings? When I put new gaskets on all four block off plates the engine held 7 psi and 16 inches of vacuum for 10 min and only changed readings of maybe a half needle width. So no case or mag/pto seal leaks. I am thinking I have been given inaccurate info on this test for a 503 but maybe correct for a water cooled 582. Thankyou in advance for any help and if you cannot answer my question then would you be able to give me a contact of someone who might. Thanks again, Bob ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 03:15:26 PM PST US Subject: RotaxEngines-List: rotax 912 crankshaft From: "ndibiase" Until recently i believe that rotax 912 crankshaft was bomb proof. But, after speaking with other owners of this engine, i was warned that there had been some failures on crankshaft for overspeed, early wear etc. Because rotax 912 crank is composite (almost incredible for a 4 stroke engine of so high price) i'd like to know from rotax list experience if someone else has experienced crankshaft problems on his 912 engine. I am specially interested in knowing witch are the symptoms, if failure is sudden or if it is people that has flied for a long time with partial compromised crankshaft etc. thanks Nicola di Biase Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=317440#317440 ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 06:17:46 PM PST US Subject: RotaxEngines-List: Re: rotax 912 crankshaft From: "jetboy" http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2007/AAIR/pdf/aair200700054_001.pdf -------- Ralph - CH701 / 2200a Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=317449#317449 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message rotaxengines-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/RotaxEngines-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/rotaxengines-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/rotaxengines-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
