How come Rotax places the senders for measuring both CHT and oil temperatures at the inlet side of the engine?? Seems like what we really need to know is the CHT and the oil temp when it is at it's hottest, *leaving* the engine.... I'm just curious if my engine does or doesn't have whatever the new parts are in it already (it's a 2005/6 vintage 912ULS). I'm not really inclined to replace them since I'm not having any problems with my oil pressure that I can see (only fluctuates a few PSI). But if it _is_ an SB or alert that's strongly suggested or worse, ;), I should probably go ahead and do it... The cut off for the engine serial numbers was right around July 2006 or right in there. you would need to look at the bulletin if your engine falls right in that time period. The Rotax SB was SB912-057UL, but had a revision and is now SB912-041UL R2 for the 912ULS http://legacy.rotax-owner.com/si_tb_info/serviceb/sb-912-041-ul.pdf The 912 80 hp is: http://legacy.rotax-owner.com/si_tb_info/serviceb/sb-912-041.pdf I would recommend that all do this little part swap. It is easy and not costly and does help. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. Wouldn't make that much difference where on the head it was so long as it measured head metal temp. The oil temp is picked up down by the oil filter area and I can't give you a good answer to that question. Maybe one of these other guys can. My guess is that it is a better measure of over all oil temp than hotter oil right out of the engine, but that's just a guess. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. It is easy and not costly and does help. Yeah mine missed it by about a year. And I'd have to replace the crankcase halves among the other things to make it qualify (may as well get a new engine). But mine will probably time out before I even get 1500 hours (unless I suddenly get more time to fly) so I'm not too worried about it. And like I said my oil pressure doesn't seem to be a problem anyway. Stays in the low 40's which is well in spec... Some have gone up 10-15 psi. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
