Ross, Pay special attention to the capacitor. It's the protection for the
regulator. The proper size can be had from B & C Specialties, Mouser,
Allied, or others but you really should upgrade to the 25000 mfd min. size.

Subject: | drop of rpm on take off |
Hi all,
bad news! Another flight today: minus 10 centigrade, very dry. RMP on take off
run 4900 (100-200 low), initial climb with 5100-5200. After 20 seconds or so,
sudden rpm drop by 5 - 700. I reduced power, flew for a minute with 4000 rpm,
slowly increased to full power, some seconds later again drastic drop of rpm.
Landed the aircraft with no problem.
Flight was done with full carb heat all the time - quite ineffective, however.
The engine was not running rough or coughing, just a sudden loss of power.
Next I will change the spark plungs.
Any good ideas left?

Betreff: RotaxEngines-List: drop of rpm on take off
Hi,
I started this thread on January, 4. I should like to thank for the advise and
report on my findings:
I changed the needle in the carb from pos. 3 to 4 and made some testflights at
5 - 6 centigrade below zero with carb heat pulled. There was no trouble, no rpm
drop anymore. Power output is okay. Carb heat is nearly ineffective, however,
as I checked the temperature in the air box with a digital thermometer and there
was virtually no difference with or without carb heat.
So the needle position obviously fixed the problem.
I have now a little problem with the warm start of the engine. Seems to be running
somewhat rich, a little bit of grey smoke from the exaust when the engine
catches.
Thanks again!
Regards, Georg

Hi Georg,
had the same a while back with my Zodiac Ch 601 HDS / Rotax 912 UL.
Turned
out, that the choke on one of the carbs would open only so slightly,
causing
a drop in RPM.
Cheers
Thilo
