...keep the gaps at 22 thou max....

I always set spark plug gap at the minimum of the acceptable range (all engines)
because when plugs wear, the gap always grows, never shrinks.

The recommended plug gap is .023 to .027
Usually the narrow gap is better for cold weather. The narrow plug gaps do aid
in starting when cold, but usually the wider gap is better for summer running.
It won't hurt to have a narrow gap in the hotter months, but it does tend to
run better with a wider gap for hotter weather. If you are changing your plugs
between 75-100 hours the gap shouldn't change but slightly. If you leave them
in longer then they should be cleaned and re-gapped. I never leave a plug in
longer than 100 hours.
