New spark plugs every 100 hours suggests that you are trashing a lot of goo d spark plugs. Without any sign of gas leakage around the porcelain insulator or electrode erosion I would not arbitrarily trash low time spark plugs that are functi oning.- Unless one is running a very lean mixture, the Rotax 912 has a lo w energy spark so electrode erosion over time should be minimal.- I have found that Iridium electrode plugs in a mechanically sound-auto engine ma y only require re-gaping every 100,000 thousand miles depending energy leve l of the spark.- Just an opinion from individual with over 50 years of ex perience working on vehicles belonging to me and others. It won't hurt to have a narrow gap in the hotter months, but it doe s tend to run better with a wider gap for hotter weather. If you are changi ng your plugs between 75-100 hours the gap shouldn't change but slightly. I f you leave them in longer then they should be cleaned and re-gapped. I nev er leave a plug in longer than 100 hours. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. I have 150 hours on mine. I checked the gap at annual and they were still fine. 912uls From: David Weaver Sent: Tuesday, May 03, 2011 4:21 PM Subject: Re: RotaxEngines-List: Re: Spark plug analysis at 50hrs New spark plugs every 100 hours suggests that you are trashing a lot of good spark plugs. But isn't the gasket only good for about 4 times for removal and replacement? I change my plugs about every 600 hours.- Even then they still look good.
