Subject: | Re: Rotax 912ULS Prop Settings |
[quote="JohnF"]I have been adjusting, then flying the RV-12 with trial and error
Sensenich ground-adjustasble prop blade settings. I believe I now have the
prop about where it should be. Here are the results of today's trial from KANK
airport at 7525-ft msl, density altitude 9,800-ft:
Take off climb at 68-mph WOT showed 5,040 rpm (climb rate 650 fpm +)
Level flight at 8.870-ft msl showed 5,550 rpm
Two 180-degree legs showed:
IAS 110/110
TAS 129/127
GPS 142/121
Will leave things as they are and check again from time to time.
Thanks, Roger for your information regarding this sort of thing.

Sounds slightly overpropped to me? I think rotax wants at least 5200 rpm when running
at WOT so 5000 sounds like its lugging a bit?
I too fly at a high altitude (northern new mexico, where the ground is about 7000'
MSL) so I prop my 912ULS (titan tornado) for climb at about 5200 at Vx (65
to 70mph) and it unloads to about 5400 at 80mph. OTOH, my prop is gigantic, a
powerfin F model, 70" 3-blade. The powerfin is notorious for having a narrow
speed range, in my experience, but nothing generates better climb performance.
So it'll easily hit redline in level flight when pitched for good climb.
Anyway, just a thought?

Yes, I agree, it may be overpitched based on other comments...I am going
to unload the prop 1/10-degree at a time and follow outcomes. Will post
results when seems worthwhile.

At my last annual, the mechanic warned me to watch for wiring trouble
due to vibration. We put extra cable ties around the module connectors
to prevent relative movement.
Now you guys have probably seen clear wire insulation with a colour
stripe along its length. Its got to be a no brainer when it comes to
preventing a hidden fracture, so come on manufacturers, adopt this
suggestion wherever an internally broken wire is a hazard! At a stroke
we could put an end to this worry.
Is there any aftermarket supplier who could make harnesses to that
specification? And any idea of the price?
