Subject: | 582 carb float question |
I have been having a problem with rough running at idle lately. I turned off
the fuel and was instantly rewarded with a smooth idle all the way down to
the stops. With fuel back on running on mag 1 or mag 2 alone resulted in a
slight worsening of the problem. I looked first at the floats and got
stopped there as the rectangular float is slightly sunk, at least 1/8-3/16
below the other float with the chamfered corners.
I went to the spare carb set and found it was equipped only with the
rectangular floats, which appear to rub slightly on the cast-in passage in
the float bowl. So I can try those, they all appear to float at the right
height, with the brass finger right at the gas level.
My question is this, did these Bings originally have all rectangular floats,
when did they change? Finally is there anything I might have overlooked,
although it seems like a rich problem to me.
