I,m running a 290g in a rebel and a four blade warp drive. It works good but I top out at about 2600 or less and 110 mph at sea level. This motor is rated at 2700 and t-o at 2800. Should I consider a little less pitch? With the tail on the ground all blades are at 3deg. If less pitch, how much approximately, and what numbers would I shoot for and under what flight regime. I know a lot of this is in the archives but they don,t currently work. You may be confusing the built in Permanent Magnet Generator item 4 in manual ie G wires to regulator with an optional External Alternator item 10 to 12 this is shown protected by a 50 A fuse or circuit breaker, the PMG regulator is shown protected by a 25 A fuse or circuit breaker the earlier manual said a 30 A slow blow fuse. I am surprised their is no fuse shown in a G wire. See manual notes re essential capacitor to protect regulator & no switching between B+ & C terminal of regulator. I believe the regulator needs battery power to start output but is then self sustaining so you will need a relay to Isolate with master switch but leave capacitor connected. I would ask on aerolectric list. It appears that the rotax 912 ULS charging system is an alternator (i.e. there are no permanent magnets, there is a "field" circuit on the rectifier and the field coils need a bit of battery power for the system to operate) but the manuals refer to the built in power system as a "generator". Is this just a translation item? If indeed I have an alternator, why do we not bother with the alternator field disconnect (wiring diagrams just show direct connection to the downstream side of the master solenoid? A more general question, all the circuit diagrams I have for the engine, my composite design panel and general use circuit diagrams do not show a fuse or breaker on the primary power supply to the main bus (power panel) from the At up to 50A, Im thinking that this circuit should be protected against short circuit - wouldn't a short cause a fire hazard? If a fuse or circuit breaker is a good idea, Im assuming that I would install as close as possible to the master solenoid - any advice re circuit breaker or fuse and location? Appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanx Vic Victor Menkal,P.Eng. Some like the full rpm range and performance so then yes you could remove a little pitch to bring the rpm up a little. My guess for the pitch reduction would be about 1/4 degree to get the last 100 rpm. On the other hand some don't like being at the max rpm and worry a little or they try to get a little more speed out of the slightly courser pitch. Some though have too much pitch and don't know that they are overloading the engine which also causes extra fuel burn, loss of climb and loss of the very thing they are trying to gain and that's speed. If you can't get the torque or HP out of the engine because the prop is over pitched then it isn't good for the engine and self defeating for flight characteristics You may want to ask yourself how much will that extra 100 rpm do for you and is it worth it? If you think you want it then make the adjustment. There is nothing lost here because if you don't like it you can always put it back. Personally I don't think the extra 100 rpm will give you much extra speed, but maybe a very slight extra climb. Your fuselage plays a very big part on the speed of the aircraft and it's not always about more HP or prop. That said matching a prop to engine and prop pitch is very important. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. Light Sport Repairman - Maintenance Rated Rotax Repair Center - Heavy Maint. It does everthing pretty good and if anything the motor seems to be picking up a little power as the hours increase. I thought I was having heat issues since I replaced the cht plug type sensor and was going over 400 too easily but have since learned that lycoming specifies the bayonet local and plug type sensors read higher. The 110 top speed is ok with me and these planes are draggy enough plus the ineffiency of a 4 blade says I,m not going much faster without burning a lot of fuel.
