Subject: | Soft Start Module on 912ULS |
To answer Peter Thomson's question about the Rotax "Soft Start Modules"
available from Rotax.
I was advised by Roger Lee *and* Rotax (LEAF) in my particular situation
that I would probably be as happy with less cost by going to the *Bully
Hawk / Con Air Soft Start Module* as shown on the Rotax product videos.
I installed the "Soft Start" on my Rotax 912ULS early this spring and have
been impressed not only with the cold weather starts but now with starts at
90 degrees F plus OAT. As an addendum, it took me longer to remove the
cowl than to install the module.
The guys at LEAF and / or Roger Lee can explain why it works by adjusting
the timing for start. If you don't understand this give them a call...they
were more than happy to answer my questions. My advice is to shop around -
there is a vast difference in pricing from the various sources.
I do not have a method to "measure" the results but IMHO I have experienced
MUCH smoother starts with the module installed. I did not have a kick back
problem before but added the module to remove the harshness of the typical
Rotax start.
With the *Bully Hawk* option you only "add" a strap-on module on top of the
ignition modules installed on your engine, connect it in line with the "A"
module and hook up the ground and a "control" wire to your start solenoid.
All parts and connectors are supplied. Couldn't be simpler and I couldn't
be happier.
Still grinnin!
