    Peter, Roger et al, One of the many things impressed upon me at Rotax school was that one should never, ever attempt to try and see the spark by grounding a plug and cranking the engine. Unless you have an extra grand lying around for a new ignition module. First, as Roger noted, it's almost impossible to see. Second, a $10 tool, an Ignition Spark Tester replaces the weak spark with a bright light that makes the test safe and easy to do. Ignition Spark Testers are available from sources as varied as Harbor Freight and Snap On.
