Subject: Re: reverse prop rotation at shut down
I believe I was the one who started this thread. The reverse rotation occurs occasionally on my 912UL if the rpm at shutdown is too high. It can go backward for as much as 3 complete turns ! (great for backing into parking spaces) Of course I don't have a slipper clutch so that isn't the problem. I have had the gearbox re shimmed and that didn't help. I changed to a lighter prop which did help a little. Anyway, I think I have the problem solved. If I shut the engine down with the engine rpm about 1200 or less,it doesn't happen. Sometimes you can see at prop stoppage that the prop blade wants to flip backward but at that low rpm ,it doesn't have quite enough inertia. Dick Maddux 912 UL
