    Hi Henry, Your right that the factory needle clip position is the 3 notch down from the top. Moving the clip to the bottom or fourth notch will richen it. Moving it up to the 2nd from the top will lean it. I allows the needle to sit down further into the main jet. Cold dry OAT's help lean your mixture. Don't take black dry sooty plugs as being too rich if you have been idling. That is normal many times. Once the engine is run up to let's say 4K rpm and run for a few minutes that goes away. Pay more attention to EGT's and what plugs look like if you shut down from higher rpms. The leaner clip position from factory will be the 2nd notch from the top. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
