A story about a Jabiru engine failure here: http://www.craigr.com/2011/11/0
9/forced-landing-in-the-jabiru/
"The second unexpected response was the disappearance of confidence I have i
n the Jabiru engine. This was actually the second engine failure we=99
ve had. The first engine lasted about 60 hours before a piston failed. My da
d discovered that problem while taking off one day. The engine just didn
=99t seem right, so he aborted his take-off just before lifting off. The rep
lacement engine they sent us had experienced the same problem during its ini
tial testing after being mounted on a new airplane. They replaced the engine
on that airplane, then replaced the failed piston in the bad engine and sen
t it to us. They assured us the replacement was like new, but then our last
=9Cnew engine=9D (which really was new) had failed after only 60 ho
urs. So we=99ve owned two Jabiru engines: One that failed catastrophic
ally after 60 hours, and one that failed catastrophically after 2.5 hours an
d again after 480 hours. That=99s an average of 180 hours between cata
strophic failures. At that rate we can expect a forced landing in a cow past
ure every 18 months. It=99s difficult to imagine what they can do to t
urn what appears to be a problem engine into one in which I can have confide
nce."

Bart, Don't know if you've had any luck with this issue, but here are some
more things to check.
Wire/Coil and Wire/Boot connection. Trim a quarter inch or so (6mm) from
the each end of the wire so that the screw inside the coil and boot can get
a firm connection. While you have the boots off, check them for proper
resistance, they should be 5 ohms. If they are too much more consider
replacing them. You can get generics that are 1/10 the price Rotax charges.
Test the spark plug leads, too. They're wire core and s/b zero ohms.
Test your mag switches for intermittent failure. Just use an ohm meter and
flip the switch a couple of dozen times and see if the switch has a failure.

Rick....
You just mentioned something that is dear to all our hearts. ($$$).
Could you tell us where to buy coil generics at 1/10th. the price of similar Rotax.
I was just shocked by the price of a single Bing 54 carb.
Thank You!
