Having this mod in place saved many hours this summer when I had a carb bowl gasket sealing problem! The gasket P/N 830 727 has changed over the years. The gasket supplied when the carbs were rebuilt in the summer of 2016 must be allowed to expand to seal properly. The maintenance manuals do not have instructions for this. The manual does specify the torque is 48.7 in lbs. Lockwood's procedure is to soak the gasket in gasoline for 4 hours, install and torque. Return in 24 hours and recheck the bolt's torque. Roger Lee says to use white grease. Lead Edge Airfoils says the only approved lube is lithium grease. Both say it is necessary to re check the bolt torque after a few hours. In our case we soaked the gaskets per Lockwood instructions and used a light coating of "fuel-lube". Roughly 6 hours after install we checked the bolts and had to retighten. Re checked again after 24 hours and they had not loosened. The carbs have performed properly up to 16000 ft since.
