Roger, This works fine for the 912 as shown. The early 914 engines were fitted with a massive drip tray which prevents loosening the screw on the carb socket to enable removal of the carb. Also the turbo airbox is quite rigid due to the hose from the turbo. And the 914 bowl is held in place with a bolt, not a spring bale. Trust me, I have tried to get the bowls off in the field and have never been able to. With the modified drip tray, it is easy to remove. Roger, I think the float bowl seal required for a 914 carb is more critical than that on a 912. On a 912 the float bowl is vented to atmosphere. On a 914 the bowl is pressurized and any leak will cause a problem, especially when flown at high altitude (over 12000 ft density). There have been 2 or 3 variations in float bowl gaskets over the years. The current gaskets seem to compress after installation and require that the bolt be re-tightened. I was stranded in Santa Fe, NM last Fall. The problem was leaking float bowls. I could see the fuel stain in the drip trays. I had a new set of gaskets and we changed them. We just rubbed the new ones with Fuel Lube and installed. The new ones leaked immediately. We then talked to Lockwood and learned of the soaking procedure. We got another set of gaskets and installed them following Lockwood's instructions. Re-tightened them after 6 hours and checked them again after 24 hours. Then we flew the plane and have had no further problem. Jim Butcher Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=466235#466235
