Subject: | 912 oil return line in silicon |
Not all silicone hoses are the same spec. Standard silicone hose is
porous to fuel and oil. If you want to use silicone hose in this
application you need to specify Fluorosilicone Lined hose which is OK
for oil and diesel.. If you really want full protection from fuels and
oils you need to specify products such as Silflex Profuel.

What is the manufacturer's recommendation? IF they say it's okay,
you're good to go. I've only used the blue silicone hose on coolant
lines and the stuff, though pricey, is amazing. After 15 years on a 582
install (with a lot of outside time) it's still as supple as new. Over
time it pays off in replacement costs and time spent. For your
application I would recommend you run fire sleeve over it though.
Best of luck and safe flying,
Rick

hose for the oil return line. This is probably the hose that is the most
affected by heat as just above the exhaust system. It works in a low
over pressure environment of around 0,35 bar yet I have never seen a
silicon tube used on this line. On the other hand the oil pump feed line
(used in an under pressure environment) is often made of silicon.
